Parts Plus Acquires J&J Auto Parts

September 27th, 2007

Parts Plus of New Mexico has announced that it has acquired the assets of J&J Auto Parts, a federated distributor in Albuquerque.

President of the Automotive Distribution Network Mike Lambert, who led the Press Release, disclosed the ramifications of such a development: “Our group has seen a lot of expansion into additional markets over the last couple of years. Our members are now in a position to concentrate and strengthen their hold in various communities.”

To allay any fears, Parts Plus assured the public that this buyout would produce no casualties. The existing location of the former J&J Auto Parts would be transformed into a satellite warehouse, while the existing employees left behind would be retained to manage said depot.

But more than that, Parts Plus is very satisfied with the acquisition as it equates to better business. With a new territory, the company is provided access to a whole new prospective market previously not penetrated.

Adam Honegger, CEO of Parts Plus New Mexico, further confirms: “This expansion will enable Parts Plus of New Mexico to increase our market share and strengthen the Parts Plus name throughout Albuquerque. This is our biggest acquisition over the past several years, and it will be a good springboard for future growth in New Mexico.”

CataDisc Launches CataParts

September 25th, 2007

CataDisc, a known provider of interactive and multimedia digital catalogs, has decided to offer its services to the aftermarket industry with their newly released industry solution software aptly called CataParts.

The minds behind CataDisc proudly asserts that the CataParts catalog can offer its targeted clientele, namely the vehicles and auto parts manufacturers and distributors, an opportunity to considerably increase their aftermarket business and enhance consumer loyalty. This is due to the fact that said catalog is working on a very detail-oriented interface, what with top features like the search engine, images of zoomable parts, instruction manuals, part specifications, and even an audio and video capability.

Moreover, said to be another great attribute of CataParts is its user-friendly nature that is formidably built on the foundation of CataDisc superior technology. There is a clever interactive list of auto parts that allows consumers to find and pinpoint the product they are interested in. What’s even more amazing is its great bonus feature of automotive diagrams that can explode into specific parts in order to demonstrate a clearer picture of said parts to the consumers. Ordering is also made easier with a couple of clicks from the customer: one click on the part to enter it to the shopping cart, and another click to order the part or inquire for a quotation to the parts distributor or manufacturer.

When interviewed for this latest technological product, CataDisc President Tony Higgins has this to say: “Imagine putting all the necessary documentation for a piece of industrial equipment or a vehicle in one place that is totally searchable and shoppable and providing it to a customer when they purchase a piece of equipment. We’ve seen some companies that provide their customers with a duffle bag of ‘books’ weighing 20 pounds with the specs, drawings, operating instructions and parts lists when they purchase a vehicle. CataParts can hold all of this information on a CD or a flash memory drive. This not only saves the manufacturer the cost of printing that 20 pounds of data, but it makes operating and servicing the vehicle so much easier for the buyer.”

“It’s a win-win for buyer and seller in terms of cost effectiveness, ease of use and productivity.”

Below is the partial Press Release of CataDisc as it discusses further the merit of CataParts technology:

CataParts also incorporates CataDisc’s technology which provides 100% security for the buyer. All the information including the parts catalog, pricing and shopping cart* are embedded on the CD. The customer doesn’t even need an Internet connection to use CataParts thereby providing total protection from privacy intrusion by “cookies”. When the customer is ready to place an order, they can connect to the Internet with “one click”* and send the order encrypted for security or print the order with all personal data encrypted and encoded in a 2D bar code for faxing or mailing. The information is decrypted only when received by the vendor.

CataParts catalogs are built using the manufacturer’s existing creative content from either their paper catalog or website, thereby leveraging monies already spent. Unlike other companies that sell CD catalog creation software to manufacturers who develop their own catalogs, CataDisc handles the entire catalog development and production, and can provide a turnkey solution including performing order fulfillment services. This can be a tremendous resource for those manufacturers without the in-house capability of developing their catalog.

O’Reilley Auto Parts to Extend Sponsorship to NHRA racers

September 23rd, 2007

NHRA, the main sanctioning body for the drag racing sport in the United States, has promptly announced that O’Reilly Auto Parts has readily agreed to extend its sponsorship of the Auto Parts NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex all the way up to the year 2010. If it is to be recalled, O’Reilly Auto Parts has been with NHRA since as early as 1999, which just goes to illustrate the level of partnership these two organizations have developed through the years.

Ron Byerly, O’Reilly Auto Parts’ Vice President of Advertising and Marketing, has this to say on the multi-year extension for NHRA: “O’Reilly Auto Parts is extremely excited to have the opportunity to continue our long-term association with NHRA and the Texas Motorplex. Our relationship with NHRA has grown significantly over the years and we welcome the opportunity to continue to enable our customers to experience the excitement of NHRA POWERade Drag Racing.”

Just recently, in a move to strenghten its specialty and influence on the drag racing industry, O’Reilly has signed a long-term rights deal to the Raceway Park located in Indianapolis. For those unfamiliar with the venue, this just happens to be the home of the world’s largest drag racing event, which is the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

Nevertheless, it is still with the NHRA where O’Reilly Auto Parts is more closely associated. Indeed, the strong relationship between the two parties has been tested through time. But more than the length of service, their camaraderie is also apparent in that O’Reilly’s participation does not just end with the NHRA Fall Nationals, it also has title rights sponsorship of other prestigious NHRA events. This would include the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events in the states of Topeka, Houston, St. Louis, Memphis, and Bristol. O’Reilly is also serving as series sponsor of NHRA’s version of the little league division, aptly tagged as O’Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League.

Gary Darcy, NHRA Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, is more than content with support of the auto parts giant, “O’Reilly Auto Parts continues to be an outstanding partner for NHRA. We appreciate O’Reilly’s significant involvement in NHRA Drag Racing, from our grassroots programs to the NHRA POWERade Series. We look forward to working with O’Reilly Auto Parts for many years to come.”

Another highly satisfied client is Texas Motorplex General Manager, Arthur O’Bright: “O’Reilly continues to be one of the best sponsors in the sport of drag racing and we’re proud to have them as part of the Texas Motorplex family. Our relationship as facility and primary sponsor has just improved and made the O’Reilly Fall Nationals even better throughout the years and we’re looking forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.”

Monro Muffler Brake, Inc. Gives Updates for the Second Quarter of 2008

September 21st, 2007

Monro Muffler Brake, Inc. expects a range of $.41 to $.43 diluted earnings per share for its second quarter 2008. The Company’s pervious expected range is $.53 to $.56 per diluted share as stated in its first quarter earnings release. This also compares to the earnings of $.37 per diluted share for the comparable prior year period, which included an after-tax impairment charge of $.11 related to the Company’s Strauss Discount Auto equity investment. The revised range includes the effects of the recently announced Craven and Valley Forge acquisitions, which are performing in line with expectations.

The challenging business situations brought impacts in the entire chain, including the ProCare business. As a result, the Company’s updated earnings estimation includes the expectation that the ProCare business will manage for the second quarter versus a previously expected contribution of $.03 per share.

“Our business has been pressured by challenges in the macro economic environment and weakening consumer confidence. As is sometimes the case with our business, challenging conditions cause our loyal consumers to temporarily delay big ticket purchases until they feel more confident in the economy. While we are disappointed with our performance in the second quarter, we remain confident in the long-term strength of our businesses model and our strong position in the market. We are pleased with the on-track performance of the recently acquired Craven and Valley Forge businesses, and going forward we will continue to seek growth through reasonably priced acquisitions especially as tough economic conditions create additional opportunities,” said Robert G. Gross, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Monro Muffler Brake, Inc., a leading provider of automotive undercar repair and tire services, plans to release its second quarter 2008 results and revised fiscal year 2008 guidance on October 23, 2007.

Auto Parts Retailer into Smartphones

September 19th, 2007

A lot of ease and improvement resulted in the business transactions and communication as CSK Auto, a leading specialty retailer of aftermarket automotive parts and equipment, issued smartphones to its 300 sales professionals and implemented a mobile, custom-developed application. This provides real-time sales, inventory, and customer service data which are useful in managing a business. There is an unlimited access to the network. The hottest sales for any CSK store can be monitored, inventories can be checked and a constant connection with the sales team is possible.

“If I see that there’s a problem with a particular store–say, if the day’s sales aren’t on the ball–I can get hold of the sales guy and find out what’s going on. I make a couple phone calls, maybe run a sale on some tools, and within two hours make up and even exceed that deficit,” says Kevin Jones, a regional sales manager in Sacramento, California. Likewise, he can intercede immediately if a large sale is on hold because of accounts receivable, pricing, or credit issues. With anytime, anywhere network access, “I can resolve these issues on the spot,” Kevin Jones said. Jones can check on sales for a store or region at 11 a.m., and if sales are behind targeted levels, drill down to the individual customer or SKU level and find out where the problem is.

Based in Phoenix, CSK Auto operates more than 1,300 stores in 22 states under the brand names Checker Auto Parts, Schuck’s Auto Supply, Kragen Auto Parts and Murray’s Discount Auto Stores. The stores cater to people who repair and maintain their own vehicles as well as to auto repair shops, fleet owners, government agencies, and municipalities. CSK is the largest specialty retailer of auto parts and accessories in the Western United States and one of the largest such retailers in the United States, based on store count. It CSK reported $1.9 billion in sales in fiscal 2006, an increase of more than 15% over the preceding year. The company is growing through expansion of its store network and by increasing per-store sales. With margins on auto parts under constant pressure, however, CSK must keep costs contained while it searches for ways to boost sales.

Additionally, CIO Larry Buresh along with senior director of IT David Waxberg drove the initiative to give mobile workers ubiquitous access to critical data in legacy and transactional databases. “We saw an opportunity to do both by using technology to increase the productivity of our field sales force,” says Buresh.

StarterGenerator.com Declares a Supplemental Blanket Purchase Order with Unison Industries

September 18th, 2007

StarterGenerator.com announced the placement of a blanket purchase order with Unison Industries for starter generators. The equipments are applicable to various turboprop, turbojet, and turbine helicopter platforms. Additional inventory will strengthen starter generator support stock to address increasing demand for Unison exchange and upgrade programs. The releases for starter generators are scheduled to begin at the first quarter of 2008.

“We believe our value as a supply chain partner is directly proportional to the breadth and depth of our shippable inventory on any given day. Customers have a multitude of options and choices when sourcing parts and without owning or possessing a comprehensive inventory, it is very difficult to participate in the sale, especially given the urgent nature typical of starter generator requirements. Market indicators suggest a robust introduction of Unison starter generators into the market via new aircraft and helicopter deliveries presently, and over the past few years. This new order not only reaffirms our commitment to Unison factory programs and tireless support of the aftermarket, but it strategically positions us to embrace anticipated demand and to realize solid growth in the future. With OEM quality, off the shelf delivery, and value pricing - the customer wins, and we are glad to be a part of that equation,” stated Garrett W. Schwarz, president of StarterGenerator.com.

Unison Industries, LLC, formerly known as Aircraft Parts Corp. is a wholly owned subsidiary within GE’s Aviation business unit. It is a leader in the design, manufacture and integration of electrical and mechanical components and systems for aircraft engines and airframes. The Unison Industries supplies for both original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket customers in the general, commercial and military aviation markets. The head office is located in Jacksonville, Florida. Unison employs more than 2,000 people in nine manufacturing facilities and logistics centers worldwide.

StarterGenerator.com was created to represent, develop further, and expand the core business behind Aeroval, Inc., which is buying and selling of starter generator-related material. It is a leading independent global distributor specializing in ‘off the shelf’ factory of new and revamped starter generator support solutions for small to medium size turbine powered fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. StarterGenerator.com is a Unison Industries authorized distributor.

The StarterGenerator.com website is not only a useful buyer resource with helpful links. It also offers different opportunities such as banner advertisements, AOG Exchange partnerships, online parts listing, and e-commerce relationships. The company’s goal is to be the leading global online solution for outright purchase and exchange of starter generators, and associated power generation components.

The S80 High Performance Concept Hitting at the SEMA Show

September 15th, 2007

The SEMA (Speciality Equipment Manufacturers Association) is a big aftermarket show in Las Vegas. It is the biggest automotive specialty products trade event in the world and is open between 30 October and 2 November this year.

Heico Sportiv, a German tuning and motor sport expert developed a spectacular high-performance version of the Volvo S80. The S80 High Performance Concept of having a high-tech aluminium-look exterior and a 350 hp bioethanol engine is intended to catch people’s attention in the SEMA show. The turbocharged T6 engine has been modified to run on E85.

“We wanted to explore how far we could take a special high-performance version of the S80. Heico Sportiv’s impressive track record in motor sports and Volvo tuning made them the perfect partner for the job. Personally, I think the result is absolutely stunning. Both when it comes to the exterior and interior design as well as the impressive muscle under the bonnet,” says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Brand, Business and Product Strategy at Volvo Cars.

The T6 engine in the HEICO S80 High Performance Concept boasts around 350 horsepower at 5500 rpm and a massive 550 Nm of torque between 1500 and 4000 rpm. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will take around 5.8 seconds. According to HEICO SPORTIV’s president Holger Hedtke, the engine development is not yet finalized, hence they hope to reach an even higher horsepower figure when the car is ready for SEMA.

The features of the HEICO S80 High Performance Concept include Volvo’s electronically controlled All Wheel Drive system with Instant Traction. A specially developed sport suspension is added to S80 with new shocks and springs that lower the chassis by 40 millimeters. The 6-pot sport brake system has blue callipers featuring the Heico Sportiv logo, sports brake pads and 355×32 mm disc.

The specially developed 20-inch VOLUTION®X. forged alloy wheels are shod with 255/30R20 tyres from Continental. Holger Hedtke said, “When it comes to the driving experience, we aimed at tuning all the components so we get a dynamic yet harmonious result. In other words, a true sports car experience without losing the luxurious and comfortable touch that is the hallmark of the S80″.

The exclusive aluminium metal-effect color of the HEICO S80 High Performance Concept radiates a distinctive technical look. “To bring out the shiny, “real metal” effect was a major challenge. This type of paint is normally not used to cover a whole car. All told, the bodywork features seven coats of paint. The coat that gives the aluminium effect doesn’t allow any touch-ups afterwards, so you have to get it right from the beginning. The whole process takes two weeks,” Holger Hedtke added.

The model’s body parts are handcrafted with redesigned wide skirts all around. All other parts, such as the tailpipe trim, window mouldings, front grill and rub strips are coated with matte finish black chrome. The front features integrated spoiler flaps, three larger air ducts, integrated LED daytime running lights and an integrated sport grille with the Volvo iron mark. A rear deck spoiler is also included. The entire exhaust system is crafted from stainless steel and the exhaust tailpipes are integrated into the wide rear spoiler.

The blue color is very evident inside the model. The modified interior has full high-quality leather in Mystic Blue with matching blue stitching and HEICO SPORTIV logo, both on the sport-contoured front seats and the two individual “bucket” seats in the rear. The safety belts and floor-mats are also blue. The sports steering wheel is trimmed in leather with a leather-trim gear lever in a silver carbon accent.

The extended floating centre stack is covered with silver carbon fiber as well as other decorative elements. The centre stack also features integrated controls for the rear seat entertainment system and a storage space with a handmade blind. The illuminated entrance trim in stainless steal and glass features the HEICO SPORTIV logo.
